Inclusive Leadership, Diversity & Trauma Training

The amygdala is one of two almond-shaped clusters of nuclei located deep and medially within the temporal lobes of the brain's cerebrum in complex vertebrates, including humans, that is shown to perform a primary role in the processing of memory, decision-making, and emotional responses (including fear, anxiety, and aggression).

The “almond” is our personal alarm system.

Our services are provided through this lens.  We are committed to supporting organizations in creating environments where we can thrive.  As a licensed professional counselor and a certified trauma practitioner and trainer, I launched Healing Your Almond to provide innovative solutions to growing issues in the workplace.  We provide customized training and consult with businesses, to increase performance and productivity. We partner with your organization to support you and your team to increase understanding, overcome barriers and create new options and possibilities.

Research shows that authentic leadership gets results.  We often hear the saying, “people leave supervisors, not jobs.”  At Healing Your Almond we understand quality employees stay with authentic leaders.  The correlation between a healed almond and authentic leadership is this...if you trust and feel understood by your supervisor and the majority of the individuals you interact with at work, your alarm will remain deactivated.  This creates space for creativity and productivity.

Our founder, Franchon Francees, explains the concept of healing your almond.

MENTAL HEALTH IN THE WORKPLACE

There are a number of risk factors for mental health that may be present in the work environment. Most risks relate to interactions between type of work, the organizational and managerial environment, the skills and competencies of employees, and the support available for employees to carry out their work. For example, a person may have the skills to complete tasks, but they may have too few resources to do what is required, or there may be unsupportive managerial or organizational practices.

Risks to mental health include:

  • inadequate health and safety policies;

  • poor communication and management practices;

  • limited participation in decision-making or low control over one’s area of work;

  • low levels of support for employees;

  • inflexible working hours; and

  • unclear tasks or organizational objectives.

Through our one-on-one team mediation services we can help your team work through difficult situations.

One of the things we address in our workshops is work/life balance.  Through our unique team-approach to these issues, we are able to enter your environment and move beyond the surface of your typical discussion.  Through our resilience lens, we increase awareness about an individuals' response to people who look or act differently than us. We can improve retention and reduce barriers to productivity by increasing safety and promoting genuine connections with colleagues.

There is plenty of motivation for employers and their staff to confront these issues. As of 2019 mental health conditions cost employers more than $100 billion and 217 million lost workdays each year. By addressing issues in the workplace and investing in wellness for workers, employers can increase productivity and employee retention. Healing Your Almond will support your organization to increase job satisfaction, creativity, and productivity.
